I just got an email that asks "What would you do if you only had 30 days to live?" Then suggests, "Why don't you live that way now?"
Well here's the deal. My confession really. If I only had 30 days to live I would start smoking again. Why not? I wouldn't worry about my health or these extra 30 pounds I'm carrying around. Why should I? I wouldn't care if my house was clean or if we did Math, I would spend each day with my kids and my husband and they would put things on hold to be with me.
I think a more profound question for me would be, "What if you had 30 years to live?" Do I want to spend those years on an oxygen tank? Do I want to spend them with heart disease? Bad knees and back?
In 30 years, the Good Lord willing, I will be 74 years old. That's not so old in today's world. I don't want to wake up at 73 1/2 and wonder what happened to my life. I want to be happy, healthy, productive and close to God with many, many years of good memories with my kids and grandkids.
In order to wake up on that wonderful day and say, "All is well." I need to start now. I have taken care of my family for 28 years now, but I haven't done a good job of taking care of me. It somehow felt selfish to take care of me. Well I now realize that if I don't take care of me, I won't be around to take care of them.
My 44th birthday was the 6th of this month. I woke up and said, "All is not well." On March 12th I quit smoking. Because I tend to gain weight when I quit smoking, I have been really changing my lifestyle. Walking, drinking water, watching what I eat. My goal is 15 pounds this year. (All right, it's 30 but I think 15 is more realistic!!)
I am spending more time with the Lord. More time-quality time-with my husband and kids. Cleaning and decluttering my home so it is clean, healthy & a good example, but not to the point of neurosis. Trying to remember that "school" takes place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and rarely with textbooks.
Whether God gives me 30 days on this earth or 30 years, I've decided that I want to live it to the fullest. Starting with the next 30 minutes.

Halloween Rant
I was reading a post at Biblical Womanhood about why Christians should/should not celebrate Halloween.

I thought my blog would be the perfect soapbox for me to say, again, I HATE Halloween!
There is nothing about the day that appeals to me. Dressing up as a Bible character or VeggieTale is not any more alluring than dressing up as a ghoul.

My children getting bags of candy from strangers (that they went door-to-door to ask for!) goes directly against what I try to teach them the other 364 days of the year.
I don’t think my children are missing out on a thing, so I don’t feel the need to provide them with an alternative. We are not Jewish, therefore do not celebrate Rosh HaShanah. We are not compelled to come up with an alternative on that night, we simply don’t celebrate it.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why we would want to participate in such a worldly and satanic holiday.
Some say as a Light in the Darkness. The children coming to my door on that night (which they don’t) are not looking for Spiritual guidance, they are looking for candy. If I were to ‘witness’ to them by dropping a tract in their goodie bag, it would be tossed with the empty candy wrappers at the end of the night.
Some say just harmless fun. Wikipedia says the following:
The modern holiday of Halloween has it's origins in the ancient Gaelic festival known as Samhain. The Festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture, and is regarded as 'The Celtic New Year'.[2] Traditionally, the festival was a time used by the ancient pagans to take stock of supplies and slaughter livestock for winter stores. The Ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause havoc such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, where the bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown. Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or placate them.[3][4] When the Romans occupied Celtic territory, several Roman traditions were also incorporated into the festivals. Feralia, a day celebrated in late October by the Romans for the passing of the dead as well as a festival which celebrated the Roman Goddess Pomona, the goddess of fruit were incorporated into the celebrations. The symbol of Pomona was an apple, which is a proposed origin for the tradition of bobbing for apples on Halloween.[5]
Hmmm….doesn’t sound harmless and certainly doesn’t sound fun.

Philippians 4:8 tells us……… Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
I can’t find anything lovely or praiseworthy about Halloween.
I see nothing desirable about Halloween and can find no justification to participate in the practicing of it.
My final thought on the matter is this:
You cannot drink the Lord's cup and the cup of demons. You cannot participate at the table of the Lord and at the table of demons.

Computer Frustration
I am sooo frustrated with techno-nonsense!!
My old computer had it's modem fried so I gave it to the kids for school. It has Windows XP and will support my older printer/copier/scanner.
My newer computer has Windows Vista and will not 'talk to' my printer/copier/scanner.
Old computer has Print Shop where I make personalized family calenders for Christmas.
New computer has Print Shop, but will not 'talk to' new printer (only from Print Shop. Works fine everywhere else!).
I sat down this evening to work on calenders, turned on old computer and there is a message. "Operating System Not Found" Excuse me?? It was there when I left!!
No matter what I tried, the Operating System was no where to be found. GRRRRR!
I have searched every piece of round plastic we own, looking for an operating system! Any system will do!
I searched among the computer cds (what do we need 6 AOL cds for? We don't even USE AOL!!), music cds (Oh, that's where the 4-Him cds are!!) and all our dvds. No Windows nuthin!
The kids are ticked. After all of my nagging for them to watch what they're doing, I'M the one who crashes the darn thing!

I'm thinking we're very close to going back to pencils & paper, dictionaries & encyclopedias!
